Our Patch of Grass

plotWell as some of you aware we are in the process of getting a house built here in Oz.   When we first came here and looked around the city for accommodation the prices almost gave us heart attacks.  However as we looked around we discovered, as with all places, the further away from the city you get, the cheaper the land and property gets too.  So having spoken to a mortgage advisor and getting some details on what is where, what we can afford etc etc, we decided to visit a display village (what they call show homes). Actually before we went we brought ourselves a map of Melbourne and after lots of post it notes, train timetables and internet browsing we came across Craigieburn.  We found the land is relatively cheaper here, a whole new housing estate is being built with new train station and even a new shopping mall is to be built (which has been in the pipeline for the last 3 years).

We spoke to the land representative and in the second visit bought ourselves a plot.  Simple as that really, she kept telling us to go and view it and thats it a beautiful piece of land but when we got there, to this day I don’t know what is so beautiful about it! See for yourself from the picture… Anyway, land brought, now we had to pick a house.  Anyway, this post is about the land, which is 32m x 16m.  We had to measure it for ourselves and we only had a 5 meter measuring tape with which to do so.   After completing and signing a countless number of forms, the whole thing went through this Monday (22nd) and we are now officially land owners :)

Developed LandRecently we have invested money into our land so that it will start working for us.  We have purchased three cows, which are happly grazing and providing us with milk (Amninder stop your grinning)

I think the tractor was overkill but it reminded me of my ford mondeo.

The “motor” is great and irrigating the entire estate.  We couldn’t get permission from the council at first, they said it was a waste of natural resources but we could build one just for aesthetical reasons.  Melbourne Council havn’t found out yet that we drilled a 753ft hole and sucking the land dry.

Unfortunately they only went and built a Temple in the next estate.

I’m looking for a good deal on eBay for a double barral shotgun just so I can sit in my rocker and say “GET OFF MY LAND”
