Transformers The Movie

Transformers, robots in disguise. These Transformers, more than meets the eye.

transformersI’m 30 odd years old now and when I heard about the film Transformers I could have wet myself with excitement. All the boys my age can remember the cartoon and how great it was; I even had a set of toys back in the day. Citroen brought out an advertisement which showed the C4 transforming into an elegant ice skater and this CGI really got me pumped. The transformation animation from car to Autobot was seamless and you could believe this could happen.

I wait with anticipation for this film however Hollywood have this tendency to ruin films at the moment (AVP being one) though I’ll try to remain optimistic.

The wait is over.

As with true Hollywood fashion this is a film that’s going to make money.  Not much thought or attention to detail on the mechanical aspect of the film but who cares! As far as the storey line well I think they knocked that up during lunch hour. A storyline that has been around and seen many times. Geek boy fancies fit girl and not forgetting average tells the US army what’s what. Die hard transformer fans just want to see these muscle machines TRANSFORM and did they transform? It was awesome, they transformed from cars, trucks, helicopter and fighter jets I’m sure there will be a locomotive in the follow up film.

Ten minutes into the film there was some kick ass, bomb shelling action and it felt good, couldn’t wait for the next metal bashing session. Action was fast and sensual the sound in the cinema really gave this film boost. Transformation was not as good as the advert and sometimes far too quick, I really wanted to see how all the parts moved and fit together. I felt the action scenes were shot up too close and it would have been nice to pan out and to see the carnage as a whole.

There were some cliche’d scenarios and crappy jokes but hey all part of the parcel. The Autobots and Decepticons were fantastic the fight scenes were brilliant, well done to the CGI guys for making this a must see film.

The air conditioning was on max throughout the film must have been due to all the testosterone levels.

Saw the movie on Wednesday and it KICKED (Decepticon) ASS. I didn’t get my hopes up for this movie cause I thought they were gonna ruin it, (by they, I mean Micheal Bay who has made crap like Pearl Harbour, Armageddon and Bad Boys), however Spielberg was Executive Producer so there was some hope.

Even though there were some silly parts (mostly the jokes) the storyline was ok. Shia LaBeouf (Sam Witwicky) is an actor I have watched for a long time. He was in a kids program call Even Stevens and he was funny in that, he then made Holes and Constantine in which he was also very good. You’ll be glad to know that his next film is Indiana Jones 4, where he will probably play Indy’s son :-)

The special effects were awesome, seamless, and pretty much photo-real. They were so good at one point I was watching how the sun was reflecting off a Transformers shoulder, I was amazed. If a shoulder can be that good imagine how happy I was when I saw the rest of them :-).

Some of my favourite Transformers like Soundwave, Ruckus, Predaking etc. were left out, but I’m hoping some of them will turn up in the sequels; its blatantly obvious that there will be one.

P.S. Did you know there is a Transformer called Ramjet :-)

Finally i got round to seeing this MUST SEE film, and it does not dissapoint. The great effects and the clever story line was too great to take your eyes away from for a second. Like “Optimus PrimAL ” said above^ its blatent there will be sequals and i belive this will be one of those classic films that wont be ruined as this story line continues (i hope lol). To talk about the actor Shia LaBeouf (Sam Witwicky) is a great actor and portrays a great image of every character he has been given. He is great in this film and in another quite recent film “Disturbia” ill let u watch the film before i let loose on it :-) . All I will say is its a must watch film for 2007 for sure!!
In conclusion this is a great film go watch it if u havent already. And note to watch out for any films that my mate Shia LaBeouf has a role in im sure it wont disapoint.
